Temasek Shophouse Conversations: First 1,000 Days – Maternal and Child Wellness
The Temasek Shophouse Conversations, launched in January 2021, is a series of hybrid events that brings leaders from the public, private and community sectors together to forge multi-sector collaboration. The conversations seek to galvanise and propel communities to take action for the common good in the region and the world. The theme for the inaugural series is “Do Good Together”. The first and second Conversations in the series, held in January and April 2021, focused on lessons learnt from COVID-19 in preparation for Disease X and climate action, respectively. The third of the series is titled, "First 1,000 days - Maternal and Child Wellness", and features a keynote speech by Singapore’s Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Health, Masagos Zulkifli. This Conversation aims to raise awareness on the importance of care in the first 1,000 days of a child’s life - from conception to age two. A child’s experience during this period has a profound impact on her or his ability to grow, learn and thrive. Factors such as maternal wellbeing, mother and child nutrition, and mother-child bonding can greatly influence a child’s future health, and consequently the health and wellness of our society. We have invited international and local experts from the fields of research, clinical practice and ground implementation to share illuminating insights on the topic of maternal and child wellness and development. The Conversation will lead to community calls-to-action to improve maternal-child health support and promote sharing of parenting experiences.
